Pegasus Capital Expands into Clean Energy Infrastructure

New York-based private equity firm Pegasus Capital Advisors, which focuses on investments in companies impacted by global trends in resource scarcity, announced the launch of a group devoted to making investments in the renewable energy infrastructure sector.

The firm just hired three executives from Rabobank’s renewable energy infrastructure and finance group to expand its infrastructure investing expertise, including: Ron Klein, Marco Krapels and Edward Levin. The new team has collectively deployed more than $3 billion of capital in the renewable sector.

Pegasus currently manages approximately $2.2 billion in assets. Its current clean energy and efficiency portfolio companies include: Purebiofuels (liquid fuels storage, distribution and marketing, and biodiesel production), Climatec Building Technologies (advanced building technology solutions), Lighting Science Group (design and development of efficient lighting solutions), Molycorp (rare earth oxide (“REO”) producer), RE Community Holdings (waste-to-energy).

The firm’s most recent investment was a $20 million preferred stock financing of  Lighting Science Group, a developer of LED technology solutions, on Sept 16. Riverwood Capital Partnersalso participated in the funding.  Lighting Science Group (LSCG:US) is based in Satellite Beach, Florida and trades on the Over the Counter securities market.

And in September, venture capital firm Hudson Clean Energy announced the launch of its first solar infrastructure fund, the Hudson Solar Infrastructure Program.
