U.S. Cleantech Companies Look to China for Growth

More and more American cleantech companies are looking to do business in China due to its strong government support and heavy investment in clean energy, which has outpaced that of the U.S., according to Reuters.

And, over the past two years, the CleanTech Group, a Bay Area consultant, has been introducing Amercan cleantech companies to Chinese contacts via weeklong tours.  Venture-funded cleantech companies including NJ-based Fluitec and MN-based Atmosphere Recovery have recently taken Cleantech Group’s China tours.

Some key attractive qualities of the Chinese market include:

  • Increased opportunities for financing as financing options for cleantech in the U.S. are diminishing.
  • Access to new corporate customers who have a higher appetite for risk versus the U.S. as companies are incentivized to take technology risk.
  • An ability to move fast, as China has aggressive sustainability goals.
