Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR& Co.) is raising $1.5 billion for a new energy private equity fund, the KKR Energy Income & Growth Fund, which will focus on investments in oil and gas development, reports Bloomberg. The fund plans to take advantage of the shale boom in the U.S. and help KKR diversify from investments in corporate takeovers. The fund will also invest in minerals and royalties, as well as mezzanine debt, according to sources connected with the fund.
KKR has a team dedicated to energy and infrastructure transactions headed by Marc Lipschultz, who will manage the new fund, along with a team of 20 to 25 people, says Bloomberg.
