DOE Highlights Huge “Wave Power” Potential

A new DOE report says that waves off California’s 1,100-mile coastline could generate more than 140 terawatt hours of electricity a year, enough to power 14 million homes. “California’s wave and tidal current resources offer real opportunities to generate renewable energy using water-power technologies in the future,” says Energy Secretary Steven Chu.

 

BP Forecasts 40% Renewable Energy Growth by 2030

In a new report, BP states that wind, solar and biofuel consumption will outpace demand for fossil fuels over the next 20 years, rising from 1 percent to 6 percent of total energy output. It states that, through 2030, global renewables consumption will grow at 8.2 percent per year versus a 2.1 percent annual gain for natural gas.
