China’s second largest wind-turbine manufacturer, Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., has purchased wind farms in Montana as many wind manufacturers are scaling back in the U.S. ahead of the 2013 expiration of the Production Tax Credit.
According to Bloomberg, Goldwind has had the fastest market share growth of the top five companies focused on wind turbines, and is poised to increase its U.S. sales. In addition to Montana, it operates wind turbines in Minnesota and Iowa.
Goldwind bought the wind farms from Volkswind GmbH to showcase its turbines. A spokesman for the company said it had turbines with the capacity of 9 megawatts “substantially complete” in the U.S. at the end of December and with 117 megawatts under construction.
