Department of Energy’s ARPA-E Program Opens up $125M – 1/7/15

The open funding opportunity will support “transformational” energy projects across transportation and stationary applications that address the agency’s mission areas including, reducing imported energy, improving energy efficiency and reducing energy-related emissions. This is ARPA’E’s third open solicitation, the first two were in 2009 and 2012. First application deadline is Feb. 20.                             

Silver Spring Networks Plans to Acquire Startup Detectent – 1/7/15

Smart grid networking company Silver Spring Networks announced plans to purchase data analytics startup Detectent. Based in Southern California, Detectent, developed a “Customer Intelligence” analytics solution for utilities. Silver Spring said it would spend $12 million in cash on the deal, which should close this quarter.

Stem Raises $27M Series B- 1/7/15

San Francisco-based Stem has raised a $27 million Series B round from Constellation Technology Ventures, the venture capital arm of Exelon Corporation, and Total Energy Ventures for its energy storage and data analytics technology. This capital will enable Stem to expand its predictive analytics energy optimization software platform and global market expansion

Energy Efficiency Company Lime Energy Raises $10M – 12/30/14

North Carolina-based Lime Energy has raised $10 million from private equity firm Bison Capital. According to the company, it currently has seven utility clients, which uses Lime Energy as its demand side energy efficiency provider.
